Rules generator
Minecraft server rules in a minute
Pick your game mode and strictness, and the generator writes the rules with punishments: chat, cheats, griefing, accounts, trading. Paste them on your site or in Discord and adjust to taste.
Your rules
27 rulesServer rules 1. General 1.1. By joining the server you agree to these rules. Not knowing the rules is no excuse. 1.2. Punishments are based on evidence: the anticheat log, server logs, screenshots and recordings. 1.3. Disagree with a punishment? Appeal to the server staff. Include your username, the date and the reason given. 1.4. Breaking the same rule again earns the next, stricter punishment. 2. Chat 2.1. No insults, harassment or threats towards players or staff. Punishment: 2-hour mute. 2.2. No flooding, spam, all-caps or repeating the same message. Punishment: 30-minute mute. 2.3. No advertising other servers, websites or communities — in chat, on signs, in books or in usernames. Punishment: 3-day ban. 2.4. No posting other players' personal information (names, addresses, phone numbers, photos). Punishment: 30-day ban. 2.5. No hate speech of any kind, and no political or religious arguments in public chat. Punishment: 1-day mute. 3. Cheats and mods 3.1. No cheats or mods that give an advantage: KillAura, Reach, AutoClicker, Fly, Speed, Scaffold, X-Ray, Nuker or anything else. Punishment: 30-day ban. 3.2. Mods that give no advantage are allowed: performance (Sodium, OptiFine), shaders, UI mods, minimaps that don't show players, mobs or caves. 3.3. No macros or binds that play for you (auto-clicking, auto-eating, AFK fishing scripts). Punishment: 7-day ban. 3.4. No exploiting bugs or duplication glitches. Found a bug? Report it to staff instead of using it. Punishment: 30-day ban and items removed. 4. Gameplay 4.1. No griefing: breaking, burning or flooding other players' builds, or taking from their chests. Punishment: 14-day ban and rollback. 4.2. No spawn-killing new players or trapping players at spawn. Punishment: 3-day ban. 4.3. No machines or farms that overload the server (lag machines, endless redstone loops, huge mob piles). Punishment: 3-day ban and build removed. 5. Accounts 5.1. No alt accounts for farming, rewards or getting around limits. Punishment: 30-day ban on all accounts. 5.2. No evading a ban on another account. Punishment: permanent ban on all accounts. 5.3. You are responsible for your account: rule breaks made from it by someone else are punished the same way. 5.4. No usernames or skins with insults, ads or inappropriate content. Punishment: ban until changed. 6. Trading and store 6.1. No selling in-game items, resources or accounts for real money. Punishment: 30-day ban. 6.2. No scamming in trades between players: keep your side of a deal. Punishment: 14-day ban and refund. 6.3. Store purchases don't put you above the rules: a rank isn't refunded after a ban. 7. Staff 7.1. Moderators' decisions are final in game. Don't argue in chat — that's what appeals are for. Punishment: 1-hour mute. 7.2. No pretending to be staff. Punishment: 7-day ban. 7.3. No false reports against other players. Punishment: 1-hour mute. 7.4. Staff will never ask for your password. Anyone who does is a scammer: report them to a moderator.
How to write rules that work
Rules aren't decoration: moderators decide by them, and players learn from them why they were punished. Good rules are short, specific and carry a punishment each, so there's nothing to argue about.
The generator gives you a base for your mode. Read the whole text before you publish it and drop anything your server won't enforce: rules nobody enforces undermine the rest.
- One rule, one offence"No insults or ads" is two rules with different punishments. Split them, or moderators will punish the same thing differently.
- Put the punishment next to the rulePlayers should know the price of a rule break up front. The soft / standard / strict scale keeps punishments proportionate.
- Ban cheaters on evidence, not reports"He's cheating" is not proof. An anticheat with a log and reports gives moderators grounds for a ban and an answer for the appeal.
- Make appeals easy to findSay where to write and what to include. A properly reviewed appeal calms a player down even when the ban stays.
- Date your rulesWhen you change the rules, change the date and tell players. Punishing yesterday's behaviour under a rule written today isn't fair.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use these rules for free?
Yes. The generator is free and the text is yours: copy it, change it and publish it anywhere — on your site, in Discord or on signs at spawn.
Where should I publish my server rules?
Wherever players see them before they play: your website, Discord, your server-list page and spawn. A /rules command that links to them helps too.
What punishment should cheating get?
It depends on the mode: on survival and PvP servers cheating usually means a long or permanent ban, while many anarchy servers only ban cheats that break the game for everyone. Either way, ban on evidence, not suspicion.
Do I need a rule about cheat checks?
Only if you actually run them. If you do, the rules should say who can call a check, how it works and what refusing means.
How do I avoid banning honest players?
Decide on several pieces of evidence, not one alert: lag and high ping sometimes look odd. There's a full article on false bans in the knowledge base.
