Coordinates calculator: Nether, chunks and regions
Where to build the portal in the Nether, which chunk a block is in and which region file holds the place you need. Enter the coordinates — the calculator works it all out at once.
Coordinates and chunks
/execute in minecraft:the_nether run tp @s 125 64 -32How it's calculated
The Nether is 8 times smaller than the Overworld horizontally: X and Z are divided by 8, height Y stays the same. To link portals, build the matching portal at the converted coordinates.
The chunk number is the block coordinate divided by 16, rounded down; a region is 32×32 chunks in an r.<x>.<z>.mca file in the world's region folder. Negative coordinates round down too: block −1 is in chunk −1, not 0.
You need the region file when repairing a damaged area, moving part of a world or deleting excess after pregeneration. Before touching any world files, stop the server and take a backup.
Chunks and regions help with reports too: CoreProtect and DGuard's punishment log show where something happened. DGuard — the best anticheat for a modern Minecraft server — gathers evidence on every front at once: combat, movement, building and the world.

FAQ
How do I convert Overworld coordinates to the Nether?
Divide X and Z by 8 and round down; keep Y as is. Back the other way, multiply X and Z by 8.
How do I find which chunk I'm in?
Divide X and Z by 16 and round down. In game the F3 debug screen shows the same.
What is the r.0.0.mca file?
A region file: 32×32 chunks of the world. The numbers are the region's coordinates — the chunk number divided by 32, rounded down.
Does height change when going through a portal?
No, the 1:8 scale applies only to X and Z. Height Y stays the same.
