BookBot

writes books with a bot

What it does

A bot in place of a writer: BookBot takes a book and quill, fills the pages to the limit — with random characters, ads or anything else — signs it and moves on to the next. One book takes it an instant; a chest of books, a few minutes.

The harm depends on the goal. Hundreds of heavy books in chests and shulker boxes bloat chunk and player data: world saves grow, and so does the load when that area is loaded. It's also spam — ad books scattered around the world or handed to newcomers. Performance suffers, and so do the players who have to live with it.

How to spot it

  • A player signs books one after another, fractions of a second apart
  • Pages are filled to the limit with random characters or identical text
  • Chests and shulker boxes are packed with signed books by the same author

How it gets caught

A human needs time per book: open it, type or paste text, flip through pages, sign. The server sees when the book ended up in hand and when the finished text arrived, and the bot gives itself away by that gap: dozens of full pages within a fraction of a second, book after book at identical intervals, text made of random characters or the same in every copy.

One long book is no crime — players write novels and paste in ready text. The evidence is a stream where pace, size and sameness line up, over and over.
