Blink

holds packets, then teleports

What it does

To the server and everyone else, a Blink user stands still, while on their own screen they keep walking: the cheat is holding back movement packets. Then it releases everything at once, and the player “teleports” along the whole path. From outside it's indistinguishable from lag — that's the whole idea.

It's used to break away from fights, cross dangerous ground unseen, or reach a bed in BedWars while defenders watch a “frozen” figure. A related combat trick — holding packets to hit past positions — is covered under Backtrack.

How to spot it

  • Freezes mid-movement, sometimes in mid-air, then a second or two later turns up several blocks further on
  • “Lags” suspiciously well: right before a hit, mid-escape, next to an enemy bed
  • Their ping in the tab list looks normal, and nobody else nearby is lagging

How it gets caught

An honest client sends packets steadily, in step with its ticks. The anticheat checks each burst against real time and against replies to the ping packets the server sends itself: real lag delays the whole stream, while Blink often holds back only movement, and the packet order gives it away. Blink and Timer are two sides of one coin: both break the link between packets and real time.

The trouble is that bad Wi-Fi looks the same. One freeze and jump is lag until proven otherwise; it becomes evidence through repetition, especially when the “lag” keeps landing on convenient moments.
