SRV record generator for a domain

Enter your domain, subdomain, server IP and port to get the DNS records field by field and as zone-file lines. With an SRV record, players type play.example.com without a port even when the server isn't on 25565.

SRV record

Empty means the domain itself: example.com.

The server's IPv4 — or a hostname that already has an A record (hosts often provide one).

An SRV target is a hostname with an A record — not an IP and not a CNAME (RFC 2782). Some panels append the domain to the name themselves; then enter the short name from the table.

Why a server needs an SRV record

An A record maps a name to an IP but holds no port. If the server listens on 25565, that's enough. On any other port, Java Edition looks up the SRV record _minecraft._tcp.<address> and takes the port from it, so players don't have to remember it.

The SRV fields, per RFC 2782: priority and weight can stay 0 for a single server, the port is server-port from server.properties, and the target is a hostname with its own A record. Some panels ask for the service (_minecraft) and protocol (_tcp) as separate fields — the generator shows those too.

DNS changes don't spread instantly: resolvers cache a record for its TTL, so lower the TTL ahead of a server move. Check the records with nslookup and dig, and the server itself with the server status checker.

Bedrock doesn't read SRV records: players enter the port by hand. A clean address is your server's shop window, and fair play on it is the anticheat's job: DGuard works behind Velocity and BungeeCord proxies too.

FAQ

How do I point a domain at a Minecraft server?

Create an A record with the server's IP. If the port isn't 25565, add a _minecraft._tcp SRV record with that port — the generator above builds both.

Can an SRV record target an IP?

No: under RFC 2782 the target is a hostname with an A record. If all you have is an IP, create an A record for it and use that name as the target.

Why isn't my SRV record working?

Check the name: it must be exactly _minecraft._tcp.<the address players type>. A common mistake is the panel appending the domain again, giving …example.com.example.com. Look at the result with nslookup -q=srv.

Do SRV records work on Bedrock Edition?

No, Bedrock doesn't support SRV records — players enter the port by hand.
