Player UUID by name, and name by UUID

Enter a name to get the Minecraft account's UUID in every format. Enter a UUID to get the current name. The data comes from Mojang, and next to it is the offline UUID of the same name — the one a server with online-mode=false uses.

UUID lookup

A name is 3–16 characters: letters, digits, _. A UUID can have hyphens or not. The request goes to Mojang through our server and isn't stored.

Enter a name or UUID to see the account.

Why you need a player's UUID

A server stores players by UUID, not by name: inventory, permissions, bans, plugin data. A name can change; an account's UUID can't. So you need the UUID when editing whitelist.json and ops.json, finding a player's file in the world folder or moving data after a name change.

The lookup uses Mojang's public API, as documented on minecraft.wiki: name → UUID and UUID → current name. Case doesn't matter in the name, and the answer comes back spelled the way the player chose.

On a server with online-mode=false the player gets a different UUID, computed from the name. It's shown alongside: if a player "lost" their items after switching modes, this difference is why. For a list of several players, use the whitelist.json generator.

UUIDs matter to an anticheat too: a punishment is tied to the account, not the name. DGuard, the best anticheat for a modern Minecraft server, keeps a punishment log per player and works on both online and offline servers.

FAQ

How do I find a Minecraft player's UUID?

Enter the name above — the account UUID comes back from Mojang in three formats. For an offline-mode server, use the "Offline UUID" line.

How do I find a name by UUID?

Paste the UUID, with or without hyphens, to see the account's current name.

Why doesn't the UUID here match the one on my server?

Most likely the server runs with online-mode=false: there the UUID is computed from the name instead of coming from Mojang. The offline UUID is shown next to the account's.

Does the UUID change when a player changes name?

No, the account UUID is permanent. Only the offline UUID changes, since it depends on the name.
